I’m tired of society’s pressures

We live in a society swamped and plagued by consumerism and are being manipulated into believing that material items can patch up the holes in our lives. Let me tell you that your don’t need to be up to date with the latest trends to find happiness. You don’t need the most followers on social media in order to earn respect. You don’t need the best ass, the perfect figure to find the love of your life!

Yeah, standards are becoming more inclusive…the introduction of plus size models, the increased representation of ethnic minorities… but quite frankly I just don’t think that it’s enough yet. We’re still being sucked so far into this system; a system that for the most part does not have our backs. It is a system that profits off of our insecurities. We think that buying certain products will magically change our lives. But in reality we won’t look like that model in the advertisement after buying whatever product they claim has made them look like ROYALTY and we won’t have that Youtuber’s life after we have watch every single one of their videos.

It’s such a difficult one to try and convince you, but believe me when I tell you that it is the industries that need to change and fix up, not you! Why do we live in a ‘one size fits all’ society? I’ll tell you why, and that’s because we live in a capitalist society, one where the main goal of a business is to PROFIT. They will use every marketing trick in the book to make you think that you are less than you are without their product, because to them you are a consumer and that is all.

Social media, as much as I love it for all of it’s amazing features, is perpetuating this negative energy, making us think that we need to strive for perfection (whatever that even looks like). I’m not saying it’s all bad… I’m the last person who would want to boycott social media, but maybe we should change the way that we approach the game…

So, I know, being your authentic self is hard… I mean shit who even is that person and what the heck does she stand for? It’s scary; but don’t we owe it to ourselves to find out and live OUR best lives?

There is no standard we need to achieve and no trend that we need to break our backs to follow – these things are arbitrary anyway. Don’t be a slave to the system. You’re way too beautiful for that, thanks.
